Vacancy announcement
The Embassy has a vacancy for a Policy Officer at the Development Cooperation Section of the Embassy.
Duties and responsibilities of the position will include:
Ø Interacting with civil society, as well as international NGO’s in Ghana and ensuring feedback into the development cooperation activities of the Embassy
Ø Engaging in a policy dialogue with Dutch NGO’s
Ø Monitoring of governance issues in general and the Ghana Research and Advocacy Programme (G-RAP) in particular
Ø Monitoring, evaluating, analysing and reporting about developments in the area of politics, human rights, migration, good governance/domestic accountability and civil society, and translating these into policy proposals and assessing their implications
Ø Mainstreaming Gender within the Embassy’s development activities
Ø Project management including administrative handling of the activity portfolio.
Job requirements:
Ø At least five years experience in good governance and civil society issues in Ghana
Ø Good knowledge of social, political and other developments in relation to good governance/civil society and gender issues in Ghana
Ø A good network among the relevant actors in Ghanaian civil society
Ø Awareness of (inter-)national developments on development issues, including on issues such as harmonisation and aid effectiveness.
Ø Skill in translating insights and information into policy advice, plans and reports and in assessing their policy and financial implications.
Ø Excellent writing skills
Ø Computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
Ø Team worker.
Working environment:
Ø The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is responsible for all aspects of the bilateral relations with Ghana, as well as with Togo and Ivory Coast. Development Cooperation is one of the core activities of the Embassy. The Embassy administers a portfolio of approximately € 65 million annually. General budget support, health and HIV/aids, school feeding/food security, environment, water/sanitation, good governance and gender are among the key areas of intervention. The Embassy works in close collaboration with the government of Ghana, as well as with civil society, local and international NGO’s and other development partners.
Ø The Policy Officer will work in close cooperation with the First Secretary for governance and development of the Embassy.
