General

Bilateral relations, which date back to the 17th century, are very strong.
The Netherlands was one of the first countries to open an embassy in Accra after Ghana gained independence in 1957.
Ghana is going through a transition phase from a development cooperation market to an upcoming economic market. That is just one of the reasons why the Dutch business sector is interested in economic cooperation and trade with Ghana. The Dutch business community is already active in Ghana such as general trading, services, health, transport, road construction, telecommunications and the supply of drinking water.
During the period from 2001 to 2006 Dutch exports to Ghana have steadily increased from EUR 109.1 million to EUR 188.4 million. Over the same period Dutch imports from Ghana rose from EUR 181.3 million in 2001 to EUR 241.3 million in 2006. The Netherlands has been one of the main destinations for Ghana's exports since 2000.
